tahi - filipino embroidery kit

Tahi, pronounced as ta-heh, means to stitch or sew in Tagalog, the main language spoken in the Philippines. The idea behind tahi is to create an educational and compact embroidery kit that incorporates Filipino culture. The package includes two embroidery hoops, embroidery thread, scissors, an embroidery needle, and Aida cloth. There is also an instruction booklet that teaches users the basics of cross stitching and also provides information on the Philippines. The packaging can be reused as a container to store embroidery and other sewing supplies such as thread, pin cushions, and fabric swatches.

The project starts with rough sketches of initial ideas and brainstorming. Moreover,
research is a crucial element in the development of tahi. General information regarding the Philippines and Filipino culture is important to the product. Visual research for example images of Filipino products and sewing and embroidery products helps to develop tahi. The illustrations throughout the package were created in Adobe Illustrator using the Pen, Shape, and Pathfinder tools. The pattern on the outside panels uses the Grunge Brushes Vector Pack available through the Paintbrush tool. Finally the instruction booklet included with the package was formatted using Adobe InDesign.
